Czurles-Nelson Gallery

James Lombardo, Sr. Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts

Lombardo PosterJames Lombardo, Jr., a graduate of SUNY Buffalo State’s business program and a New York City investment advisor and art collector, has established an opportunity for ten exceptional Buffalo State College undergraduate visual arts majors to learn about the business of the visual arts to enhance their potential for professional success.  The project he funds honors the values and inspiration of his late father, James Lombardo, Sr.

The faculty in the Departments of Art Education, Design and Fine Arts select one outstanding student from each visual arts studio.  The artwork of these ten Lombardo Award recipients is featured in “Across the Visual Arts,” the first student exhibition of the academic year in Buffalo State’s Czurles-Nelson Gallery in Upton Hall.

In October, Mr. Lombardo sponsors the students and two faculty mentors on a four day trip to New York City to learn about the business of the visual arts.  In addition to visiting galleries and museums, the students meet with arts administrators and interact with a panel of entrepreneurial artists assembled by Mr. Lombardo.

During the 2014 New York City trip, “Across the Visual Arts,” the student exhibition by Lombardo Award recipients, will be presented at the Rogue Gallery I Chelsea from October 9-11, 2014, with a celebratory reception honoring the Lombardo Award students on Friday October 10, 2014 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
